Workplace safety is essential for maintaining a healthyand safe working atmosphere. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has strictguidelines to ensure that proper safety measures are followed.

Health and safety consultants are to deliver training to building owners and managers. Each day, a largenumber of people spend time in commercial buildings and owners of thosebuildings need to understand that safety arrangements in those premises shouldbe apt.

People in commercial premises are exposed to risks, whichcould be caused by air, Legionella and fire. Improper maintenance of airconditioning system, fire equipments and water systems could cause severeinjuries and even death. The building manager would be held responsible forsuch accidents and may have to undergo prosecution. That’s why, it is importantfor them to make sure that the building is free from health and safety risks.

For minimizing risks from fire, Legionella and airconditioning, health and safety consultants could provide help. Theseconsultants could guide building owners to install safety measures inaccordance with HSE guidelines, so that risks could be avoided.

Legionella bacteria could colonise the water system iftemperature is between 20°c and 50°c. So, building managers need to make sure that hot water is at or above 50°c and temperature of cold water is at or below 20°c. If temperatures of hot and cold water are above orbelow these stipulated levels, then accredited professionals should be calledin for carrying out risk assessment. Those professionals will check hot andcold sentinel taps, cold storage tank, calorifier and showers and then recordall findings into a logbook. Based on the level of the risk, they may prescribesome remedial actions.

In order to make fire risk assessment compliant withprocedures, mandated by HSE, workplaces with flammable and non-flammablesubstances are surveyed. Commercial buildings without flammable substances areinspected to identify individuals, prone to risk and whether fire equipmentsare installed and fire escape exits are positioned properly. Commercialpremises with flammable substances are inspected to gather fire incident data,identify key risk parameters and review effectiveness of fire safety guidance.

Air conditioning inspection in commercial buildings mustbe done according to TM44, an article by Performance of Buildings Directive orEPBD. EPB regulations 2007recommend inspections for systems with rated outputof more than 12KW at interval of not over five years. Health and safetyconsultants also prescribe looking after energy efficiency, electricityconsumption rate and emission of certain greenhouse gases, while carrying outair conditioning inspection.

Mortara Instrument’s ELI 100 is a portable interpretive electrocardiograph designed to be fast and easy to use. It acquires and prints a 12-lead ECG at the touch of a single key.

The printout, on 108mm wide paper, offers a variety of formats:3 or 4 channel in automatic mode and 3 or 6 channel during rhythm recording.

The ELI 100’s lead fail detection and signal quality check ensure optimal signal acquisition, reducing the need for ECG re-acquisition and thereby lowering operating expenses.

The LCD presents the user friendly interface which prompts the user for commands and displays the unit’s status.
